How to Stop Panic Attacks
Techniques to use in how to stop panic attacks
There are some of us that are plagued with such severe anxiety that it can lead to panic attacks, and sometimes severely so.
They may be linked to issues that have not been resolved from the past which can then manifest themselves in your body in the form of a panic or an anxiety attack.
In other cases you may find yourself in a stressful situation, either at home or at work, that is leading you to a feeling of being overwhelmed and out of control, and of not having the skills to deal with things when these stressful situations occur.
There are many different techniques that can be employed to learn how to stop panic attacks.
Some of these techniques may involve professional help, either through counseling or medication, at some stage in the healing process. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this in the short term and, in fact, an opinion from a professional often can work wonders.
But there are also other techniques that you can do for yourself.
I believe that this will have a much more lasting effect, since you will EMPOWER YOURSELF to be the catalyst for change.

Your Options
The first option you should consider when looking at how to stop panic attacks, as I’ve mentioned, is to seek professional help through counseling by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist. These professionals are equipped to help you sort through and hone in on the issues that are causing the panic attack when you find yourself in certain stressful situations.
Sometimes this may mean going back to your childhood (regressing), to sort through the root cause behind certain fears or phobias that you might be experiencing. Once the root causes have been examined, it makes the issues much more manageable for you so that you can begin to deal with them.
A great strategy in finding how to stop panic attacks is to learn different ways to lessen, or even stop, the panic attack in its tracks before it starts to take hold.
There are a variety of different ways you can do this. One well-known method is to learn how to breathe deeply from the abdomen, so that you feel more relaxed by keeping the oxygen flowing to all parts of your body and mind. This allows you to think more clearly and helps to stop the feelings of claustrophobia and panic that can tighten the chest and make the heart pound in your chest.
Another technique is to find ways to ‘ground’ yourself in how to stop a panic attack. One quick and effective way is to drink a glass of cold water or to hold an ice cube in the hand or simply wash your face in cold water. This can distract the body away from the attack quite effectively.
You may even find it helps to simply say aloud the things that you see around you. This can stop you from focusing on the issue that is causing the panic attack and you begin insteadto focus on the moment.
Finally, try to look objectively at your symptoms as they are happening, almost as if you are trying to diagnose yourself and your symptoms. This can almost ‘confuse’ your panic attack, giving it nowhere to latch onto.
Much love
Beth
